“Pianissimo” is a dynamic direction in music to play very softly. The volume at which a musical piece is played can have a great deal to do with the emotional effect it has on a listener, and the changes in volume that occur throughout a song can make it even more impactful! Think the opening movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, or even “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen! Volume, also called amplitude and measured in decibels, might seem basic but represented as a sine wave you can actually measure the vibrations and interpret them as loudness/softness. Pretty cool math-to-music connection!
