Cellular Biologist
September 2022 | Inspired by Jessica, Cellular Biologist
Jessica is the Senior Director of Product Applications at Cell Microsystems and has a background in molecular and cellular biology. She has worked in a variety of fields, including cancer research, toxicology, regenerative medicine, and most recently, life science tools development. She holds a BS in Biology from the University of Virginia and a PhD in Molecular Cancer Biology from Duke University. When asked about her job, Jessica said: “The best part… is innovating cell biology workflows using our technology. I tell everyone on my team that we don’t follow protocols, we create them. We get to use our microscopy and cell isolation platform to dream up new ways that our technology can enable advances in research and development in a range of applications (drug discovery, gene therapy, etc).” 💗
Jessica also made a point of mentioning something that likely resonates with a lot of ladies in STEM: how to be successful in your career while also being a mom. She shared that before going on maternity leave her bosses asked if she would be “coming back to work” so it was important to her that she continue to advance in her career while also handling the responsibilities of being a mother. “I have spent the last 6 years trying to find balance between a career I’m passionate about and being there for my family,” she shared, “It’s definitely not always easy, and often I feel like some aspect of my life is not getting the attention it deserves, but it was important to me that as a woman in STEM I be able to have a career and a family.” 💞
Cellular Biologist pairs well with R&D, also inspired by Jessica.
